I’m very happy to join the dynamic Surround Library team… I am a lucky guy : I have the opportunity to work with many different systems because I teach surround recording at the French Audiovisual National Institute (aka INA). I also work on documentaries and for feature films.
I have always been interested in wild sounds. I have been collecting them for 20 years now, and you can hear some of them on my sound blog.
Most of the times for ambience recording I prefer to record with the IRT cross, or double ORTF: the space sensation is larger, and the sweet spot greater. But sometimes I choose one of the other systems (MMAD, double M/S, B-format, DPA, etc.), it depends on which system I have -or what I want to do-, or which kind of movie I have been hired for.
But I never forget that the most important thing is not the mics or the system but what you are recording…
